Looking for an HBsAg Test Center in Navi Mumbai. We UDC Diagnostics do all types of Bodt tests. A hepatitis B blood test only requires one drop of blood, but the “Hepatitis B Panel” consists of three parts. To determine whether or not a person is infected, all three test results are required. The three-part “Hepatitis B Panel” of blood test results are explained below.
- HBsAg (Hepatitis B surface antigen) – A “positive” or “reactive” HBsAg test result indicates hepatitis B infection. This test can determine whether the hepatitis B virus (also known as the “surface antigen”) is present in your blood. If a person tests “positive,” more testing is required to determine whether the infection is a new “acute” or “chronic” hepatitis B infection. A positive HBsAg test indicates that you are infected with the hepatitis B virus and can spread it to others through your blood.
- anti-HBs or HBsAb A “positive” or “reactive” anti-HBs (or HBsAb) test result indicates that a person is immune to the hepatitis B virus. The hepatitis B vaccine or a successful recovery from a previous hepatitis B infection can provide this protection. This test is not routinely performed at blood banks. If you have a positive anti-HBs (or HBsAb) test, you are “immune” to the hepatitis B virus and cannot be infected. You are not infected and cannot infect others with hepatitis B.
- anti-HBc or HBcAb (Hepatitis B core antibody) – An anti-HBc (or HBcAb) test result of “positive” or “reactive” indicates a past or current hepatitis B infection. The core antibody offers no protection against hepatitis B virus infection (unlike the surface antibody described above). The results of the first two tests are required to fully comprehend this test (HBsAg and anti-HBs). If you have a positive anti-HBc (or HBcAb) test result, you should speak with your doctor to get a full explanation of your hepatitis B status.
